The Best Health Trends of 2016
2015 was a huge year for wellness, and 2016 is proving to be just as ground-breaking. While many trends such as guacamole and food bowls are still very popular, there are some new trends this year which are becoming very much in demand.
Sensory Deprivation Tanks
These have been around for a while, but they are only recently becoming well-known and popular amongst the public. They are water tanks filled with Epsom salt, completely silent and in total darkness. The user floats in the water (the amount of salt in them gives the feeling of no gravity) in the darkness for about an hour. The combined effect means all your senses are shut off.
‘Float spas’ are used to relax your body and mind and are very successful at alleviating stress by lowering cortisol levels. They can also help to manage chronic pain and illness, including high blood pressure and fatigue. By closing you off from your surroundings, you are left with only your thoughts and many people say they go into a deep state of meditation during these sessions.
Matcha
Matcha is a Japanese Green Tea and is fast becoming the latest superfood and ‘it drink’ for health fanatics. It is a special type of green tea in powdered form (Matcha translates literally to “powdered tea”). The difference in Matcha and traditional green tea is that usually you would steep the tea leaves in hot water, and then discard the leaves. Whereas with Matcha you drink the leaves after they have been finely powdered and made into a solution. This allows a lot more of the nutrients to be consumed, making Matcha a lot higher in the all-important antioxidants and metabolism-boosting enzymes that green tea is known for.
Workout Gear
The buzzword here is Athleisure (a combination of athletic and leisure). According to analysts, the sales of workout clothes are now higher than denim. Long gone are the dull and boring workout clothes; there are now stylish leggings and tops in any style and pattern you can think of, but 2016 is proving that these fashionable clothes are being worn more in everyday life, rather than just for the gym. With well-known fashion such as Athleta and Sweaty Betty upping their efforts, and new designers appearing everywhere it’s no wonder they’re becoming so popular.
Supplements
Diet and weight-loss supplements are drugs, tablets, and natural extracts which are promoted to either provide nutrients to your body or aid you to lose weight. They have always been popular and are proving to remain so in 2016. There are so many different types, so you need to do your research before you invest. Even the best garcinia cambogia needs be taken alongside a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise. There are no miracle pills, people!
Despite all this, it is key to remember not to get swept up in all of the latest fashions and trends. If you want to live a healthy lifestyle, then a balanced diet and regular exercise come above anything else.
