Bridal Survival: Choosing the Right Music

Bridal Survival: Choosing the Right Music

September means back to school, back to work, back to books, back to ‘teacher’s dirty looks’- In short, the end of summer. While I will miss the summer sun, for me, fall is welcomed. For this Girl of TO, September starts the final stretch of singledom. On Wednesday, December 31st, I will be a blushing bride, I will become a wife- I will be a Mrs!

Over the last 9 months, my fiance and I have booked the venue, ordered the dress, hired a florist, photographer, organized transport and booked our honeymoon. But now it is crunch time, time to create and confirm all of the small, individual details that will make our wedding unique, memorable and most importantly, OURS.

From the bridal shower to the bachelorette, from the guest favours to the final vows, join Girls of TO as we navigate the details and somehow, amalgamate a bridal survival guide that will hopefully make your future journey down the aisle a little bit smoother. Provided, of course, that I make it myself.

The Ceremony Music

Music is a big part of your wedding day and the ceremony is no exception. You will need to choose at least two songs- Processional & Recessional. Here are some of my personal favourites:

Processional:

  1. Canon D by Pachabel
  2. Bridal Chorus by Wagner
  3. First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes
  4. A Thousand Years by Christina Perri
  5. You & I by Stevie Wonder
  6. Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo
  7. Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder

Recessional:

  1. Wedding March by Mendelssohn
  2. For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder
  3. Marry You by Bruno Mars
  4. The Greatest Day by Take That
  5. You are the best thing by Ray LaMontagne
  6. Happy by Pharrell
  7. You’re my best friend by Queen

There are a a few other opportunities to personalize your ceremony through music.

  1. Ask your venue if you can play background music while your guests enter. This will immediately set the mood of your ceremony, injecting energy into the room.
  2. Your groom and his groomsmen can enter to a song that represents the years of bromance that have lead to this moment.
  3. While you are signing your marriage license, invite a musical friend or family member to perform a song. This is not only a unique way to include loved ones, it also keeps your guests entertained while you and your new hubby are going through the paper work.

What are some of your favourite wedding ceremony musical moments? Did I miss any processional or recessional gems? Feel free to comment below and stay tuned to Girls of TO for my Bridal Survival Tips!
