Cheers to Summer feat. St-Germain
There is just something about the summer that makes me want to spend all my extra time with friends, while surrounded by delicious food and cocktails. Whether it’s a patio hangout, a beautiful picnic outdoors or even a hangout at my house with a scrumptious spread, creating a fun gathering with all the food and cocktails one could desire is the best way (in my opinion) to celebrate Summer!
I’m at that age where I find that it is not always about the quantity, but rather the quality. While that could mean the company you surround yourself with as well as the spread available for munching while you gab with friends, a great cocktail is something I’m also not willing to give up. When having friends over for, I like to keep things simple, but elegant and I have recently discovered my new favourite cocktail of the summer using St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur.
When it comes to liqueur’s, I’m always a little apprehensive when trying it out.
Since I’m not quite a cocktail connoisseur, I prefer sticking to something simple, but one that makes a big impression. St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur has become my go-to addition because it pairs well with every base spirit like my favourites vodka and gin, adding a “je ne sais quoi” to any cocktail. And the best part about using St-Germain in my cocktails is the low sugar content unlike many other liqueurs on the market, so you can focus on enjoying a deliciously fragrant flavour on a hot summer day!
Developed from hand-picked Elderflower petals in the foothills of the Alps, St-Germain liqueur is carefully designed and made with 100% fresh blooms unlike some elderflower liqueurs which freeze the blossoms as soon as they are picked. When creating cocktails with St-Germain’s liquor, you can guarantee that their Elderflower blossoms have been inspected thoroughly for the best- quality around, and luckily, each bottle contains a number identifying the year the elderflowers were harvested!
St-Germain is an ode to French artisanal creation, so naturally, I had to host my own Vive L’Apéritif gathering to celebrate the importance of “slowing down” and taking time to enjoy life and time with loved ones.
The medium in question here is l’apéritif and while it is generally thought to be the essential cocktail for stimulating one’s appetite before a sumptuous meal—thereby making said meal even more sumptuous—the French have perfected l’apéritif as a general way of living.
To take one’s time, to breathe and live deeply and suck all the marrow out of life… this is the Art of l’Apéritif, an art form that begins with the mixing of the perfect cocktail. Which means that time is most certainly not of the essence. So, one can relax, be conscious of one’s posture, maintain one’s élan and learn this finest of all the fine arts.
A yummy charcuterie board, pastries and sweets and of course, some fruit to enjoy along with a bottle of St-Germain made for a perfect spread and for the occasion, I made my absolute favourite St-Germain cocktail recipe that is so refreshing and fabulously complements the liqueur’s subtle yet complex flavours of tropical fruits, pear and citrus.
