Coffee Table Display DIY

If you’re like me, your coffee table features a rotating pile of magazines and more remotes than one person could possibly need. A coffee table is prime real estate for displaying pretty DIY projects. So lets join together… now is the time to take back the coffee table!

I made a collection of little projects that when put together made a cute coffee table display. It is easy to mix and match and change seasonally.

The items I used to create the tray base were:

  • Ikea ‘breakfast-in-bed’ tray (or any tray you have lying around)
  • Scrapbook paper in a neutral colour or pattern
  • Ribbon in a coordinating colour
  • Mod Podge with sponge brushes
  • Hot glue gun

Step 1:

Cut the scrapbook paper to cover the base of the tray. Cover with a thin layer of mod podge and let it dry. If there are gaps around the edges that’s fine! You will be covering it with ribbon later.

Step 2:

Once dry, attach ribbon along the edges with your hot glue gun. Feel free to add any extra jewels or gems to really jazz up the base.

  • Wooden picture frames of coordinating sizes. I choose one vertical and one horizontal.
  • Acrylic paint in a colour that matches your newly decorated base (with brush)
  • Lace
  • Half Pearls
  • Ribbon in a contrasting colour
  • Hot glue gun
  • Sand Paper (optional)

 Step 1:

If necessary, sand the frames to create a paintable surface. Paint a the frames and let dry.

Step 2:

Based on your taste, decorate your frames using a hot glue gun. I cut pieces of lace to create a clean lines on each side of the frame. For the second frame I attached strips of half pearls and finished with a bow made from a contrasting ribbon.

Try jazzing up a vase by filling it with coloured stones and a candle. Decorate with corresponding ribbon and add to your tray.
