My beau has lovely masculine hands that are super soft and delicate at the same time. I can’t say the same for his cuticles and nails. He has a nervous habit of picking at them, which causes tears and snags. He’s doing it as I type and I have to periodically look up from my screen and scold him.
I used to have the same problem. I was embarrassed to show my hands, which was a huge problem considering I was attending events on a weekly basis. I kicked it all to the curb when I started growing out my nails and promised myself I wouldn’t use my nails as tools. So far I’ve been doing well and have perfectly manicures long nails with soft and neat cuticles.
I use a huge assortment of products to get my hands looking the way they do so I thought I’d try and help my love out a bit by getting him something less conspicuous than a bottle of cuticle oil or a tin of cream. I spotted this Essence Studio Nails Extra Moisture Nail Balm at DM in Germany and bought it for him. The water-based product claims to intensively moisturize nails and cuticles thanks to a precious complex of pro-vitamin B5, natural beeswax, and glycerin.
My verdict: The nail and cuticle balm is okay if you don’t require an intensive treatment. I used it and felt that for a few hours it did a good job at keeping my nails and cuticles moist. It also absorbed quite quickly. For my boyfriend, who has severely damaged his cuticles this didn’t cut it.
Also, I found the smell to be sour, almost like dill pickles, which I can’t say I’m a fan of.
I’ve now learned that maybe it doesn’t matter if the package or smell are more feminine, as long as the product works. Below are products I have used and continue to use because they work wonders and have helped me achieve perfect cuticles and long, strong nails.
Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthening Cream – My HOLY GRAIL! |
LUSH Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter – perfect at night |
Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream – great for everyday use but the packaging sucks |
Hoof Cuticle Oil
Have you used any of these before? What are your favourite cuticle and nail moisturizers? I’m looking into trying out the Trind nail and cuticle balsams next. If you’ve used it I would really love to hear your opinion!
