What do you get when you combine the two great eras of the ’30s and ’60s? Leah Antoinette’s most recent collection for Elan + Castor.
The swankiest event in town took place at Parlour and I couldn’t imagine a more suitable setting. Old fashion cocktails and Parov Stelar “Booty Swing” and other electric swing music pounded through the speakers as the models sat and chatted sipping old fashion cocktails in their stylish outfits, Antoinette’s own creations.
The women’s RTW line is ideal for Fall/Winter. Think beehives, thick cat eyes, and bauble necklaces to create the perfect sophisticated look that the Elan + Castor line is attempting to bring back in full force. The brand has been said to focus on the paradox all women exude: having both raw strength and frailty – the brand celebrates the everyday contradiction that is womanhood. This collection differs from the previous ones due to what influenced it. Antoinette was inspired by ’30s menswear and ’60s womenswear. She looked to icons such as Jane Birkin and Francois Hardy and imagined Ernest Hemingway was their boyfriend and what it would look like if after they got dressed to go out they threw on his coat. They’d still look just as stylish, if not more so, and that is exactly what the pieces do: they merge the two eras as well as the masculine and feminine in a perfect balance.
What’s next for the Elan + Castor? Taking on California and New York! And we can’t wait to see where this brand will go!
