If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then new Canadian jewellery company Kimberfire is like that ahhmaaaazing movie that brought you two together. Kimberfire is the brainchild of Jonathan Goldberg, a professional diamond grader who was trained in the art of ice in Antwerp and the Middle East. Goldberg’s business fills the gap in the market between retail and online diamond buying: while a visit to Tiffany’s or Birks will allow you to see your rock close up, prices are significantly marked up in such brick-and-mortar locations. Option number two is to shop online for a reduced price; the problem is, a diamond is a big investment to make without having inspected the goods – this is why only about ten percent of diamond purchases occur online.
Kimberfire has been able to combine the retail experience with online pricing; the process is simple: you contact Kimberfire and explain what you’re looking for, they source a selection of wholesale diamonds based on your specifications, and then you visit the Kimberfire office for a consultation to inspect the diamonds, choose one, and decide on a custom-designed setting. And the opportunity to chat with a pro about your options is nothing to scoff at.
Kimberfire creates all manner of diamond jewellery, but the major focus is on engagement rings. There’s something very romantic about the kind of ethically-sourced, personalized, one-of-a-kind rings that can be created with Kimberfire, especially in comparison to the generic fare sold at retail locations and the questionable rocks sold online. The post-engagement shots that fill Kimberfire’s Facebook page showcase the unique rings produced by the company – here are some of my favourites!
After finding inspiration for his fiancé’s engagement ring on her Pinterest account (at left), this Kimberfire client re-created the look (at right)!
Isn’t this Kimberfire-created setting lovely?
