Finding Printed Inspiration at IDS2014

Finding Printed Inspiration at IDS2014

Prints are hot this season, on the runway and when it comes to décor, that was obvious at IDS2014.

On everything from full-length wall murals to spring floral accented pillows and bold geometric textiles and wallpaper, there was definitely a print accent for everyone. All my favourites were there showcasing the season’s latest patterned inspiration: Graham & Brown, NewWall and newbie Thoreaux (although you can’t tell by their stunning collection).

It’s no secret I’m a sucker for a beautiful wallpaper print. Wallpaper is a fantastic way to add some character, elegance, luxury and charm to a room. But, what I fell in love with at IDS2014 had me “floored” – literally!

From floor to the walls, Modallion Rugs’ MOD9:10 new collection had me reconsidering how I think about rugs. Almost too good to walk over, these prints, or should I say works of art, are a “must take your shoes off before entering” kinda pretty. Safe to say I’m in love.

And bonus, Modallion works with local designers and artists to make exclusive, unique and original handmade area rugs and they use natural and renewable materials. They even have a Lada Gaga in Vogue pattern (see above far top right) and a Jeanne Beker & Glen Hanson collaboration from 2011 (see below).

I'm Lisa, a real born and bred Torontonian in every sense of the word. I'm a PR practitioner by day with a fabulous client list, at a very cool boutique firm in the core with a view of the city that can make anyone want to move here. I have a mild to moderate hat obsession, and you’ll usually find me searching the city for the next big chef, and rarely without a fashion or décor magazine in my purse. Before PR, I was a travel writer/editor/photographer, and spent most of my time travelling the world and bringing my stories back here. The rest of the time I spent indulging in the city's untapped culinary scene as Post City Magazine's main restaurant photographer. But, no matter where I am in the world, nothing beats coming home. That's why I've spent the last few years planting my roots here, moving from Toronto’s uber-chic west side to the heart of Greek Town in a modern Victorian semi (a.ka. my lifelong décor project), with my husband and super-stylish son. Yes, I'm one of those moms, the one who won't give up her sense of style post-baby bump; and why should I?! I aspire to have my cake and eat it too - I am Italian after all. And, now why my 2-year-old in tow, I can bring him along for the ride.
