First 3 Steps to Successful Conception
When you decide to start a family, there are likely to be any number of emotions throwing themselves your way. There is the excitement of looking to the future with a new child in it. There are the nerves involved in not knowing how ready you are – because no-one does, really. And not least of the emotions is the anxiety that is aroused by hoping that you can actually get pregnant.
The simple truth is that some people try for a long time without success. This may not be due to any reason that is easily detected. If you’ve gone through all of the checks and tests there are and show all the signs of someone who is fertile, that’s good. But it doesn’t mean you’ll fall pregnant on the first attempt, or even the second or third. Sometimes it will take persistence, and you may have some false starts along the way.
What is important is to take into account that we now know more about the process of conception than we ever have. You have more in your armory than ever before, and a lot of options for increasing your chances. You should avail of everything you can to give yourself the best chance of conceiving. Many of these resources will not cost you a penny.
Diet
It’s a good idea to not set too much store by old wives’ tales of what helps women get pregnant. If friends or family tell you that when trying to conceive, eating pumpkin pie every day helped them, don’t ignore it as such, but anecdotal tips are not always helpful.
At the same time, some foods do have nutrients that assist conception. Bananas are excellent for regulating hormones. Shellfish is good for strengthening the womb lining. Eggs are packed with antioxidants which provide a friendly atmosphere for fertilization.
Timing
Getting pregnant is very much a question of timing things right. Some people are fortunate enough to get pregnant without really trying because they just had sex at the right time. You can’t rely on that. By using a period calculator you can judge when you’re at your most fertile and work around that. It doesn’t mean that’s the only time you can have sex. But it’s during that time that you definitely should.
Try To Relax
No-one can deny, it’s a stressful time. If you’ve gone a couple of months trying and it’s not happened, the stress multiplies, so we’re aware that “try to relax” sounds like the epitome of easier said than done, but still, try.
Getting wrapped up in anxiety does not create a positive environment for … well, anything. And certainly not for getting pregnant. Accept that it may not happen immediately. Accept this for your own sake as much as anything, because it’s not an easy time. When the time is right, it will happen.
Before you get pregnant, you have the freedom to set your schedule and plan every step. Relish this fact, because when you get pregnant there are suddenly a lot more demands on your time. Enjoy this greater freedom, and you increase your chances of getting pregnant.
