Gold-Plated Holiday Entertaining

Christmas-table-decorations-silver-and-gold

The Holidays are almost upon us, and with them comes entertaining. Let’s face it, it’s really the food and breaking bread with family and friends that makes a Holiday special, so I knew I wanted the dining table to be my focal point this season.

If you’re like me, you love hosting, but feel challenged when it comes to preserving your style while still creating the perfect festive atmosphere all at the same time.

It’s not that I don’t love the Holidays, but I’m just not a huge fan of the one-time use, toss away till next year, kitschy décor that often comes with it.

To me the Holidays extend beyond Christmas or Hanukkah. That’s why I was on a mission to find pieces that I would love in my home all winter long. I wanted to create a timeless space. A space that would last past the month of December. A space that says “it’s the Holidays,” without screaming it. A space sans reindeer candle holders and Santa mugs.

Gilded Holiday

The answer… Nothing says festive Holidays to me like the gift of gold!

Here’s how I created my perfect gold-trimmed Holiday space:

1. Glimmer-Wrapped Glassware, Anthropologie – $16–$18
2. Beaver Fur Throw, ZARA Home – $199
3. Leaf Napkin Ring (Pack of 4), ZARA Home – $25.90
4. Modern Salt + Pepper Shaker, West Elm – $20.99
5. Gold Christmas Plate Charger, ZARA Home – $11.90
6. Metallic Gold Pillow, Indigo – $59.50 37.50
7. Kate Spade of New York Paper Coasters – Gold Dots, Indigo (set of 24) – $20

I'm Lisa, a real born and bred Torontonian in every sense of the word. I'm a PR practitioner by day with a fabulous client list, at a very cool boutique firm in the core with a view of the city that can make anyone want to move here. I have a mild to moderate hat obsession, and you’ll usually find me searching the city for the next big chef, and rarely without a fashion or décor magazine in my purse. Before PR, I was a travel writer/editor/photographer, and spent most of my time travelling the world and bringing my stories back here. The rest of the time I spent indulging in the city's untapped culinary scene as Post City Magazine's main restaurant photographer. But, no matter where I am in the world, nothing beats coming home. That's why I've spent the last few years planting my roots here, moving from Toronto’s uber-chic west side to the heart of Greek Town in a modern Victorian semi (a.ka. my lifelong décor project), with my husband and super-stylish son. Yes, I'm one of those moms, the one who won't give up her sense of style post-baby bump; and why should I?! I aspire to have my cake and eat it too - I am Italian after all. And, now why my 2-year-old in tow, I can bring him along for the ride.
