One of my favourite home décor/furniture trends that I’ve been seeing has got to be reclaimed and refinished wood reappearing in a variety of forms. I saw this a lot at IDS14, as well as again at the GTA Home Show.
There’s nothing like a piece of furniture that has a story behind it, and the fact that these stunning pieces are Canadian-made and locally-sourced is a huge bonus.
My first find is from Burlington-based Patterson’s Furniture and incorporates reclaimed wood and other eco-friendly sources. I think I’ve completely fallen in love with this zipper table, it is so unique and I can see it being the focal point of any conversation at any dinner party.
The second is from Artemano Furniture’s Boat Collection. Made from dismantled boat wrecks this collection and the character it gives off has totally wowed me. Aged from years of rough seas, the brightly coloured boat fragments once fished the Strait of Malacca in Indonesia – how’s that for a conversation starter?!
The third find is from a company called Rustik Design, a specialty art studio in Toronto that uses driftwood and barn boards to evoke a sense of charm. Their area of focus is in mimicking the look of distressed finishes like barn board and wood (among other finishes). The stunning barn board wall above was created using various size planks that were painted to give the old wood charm, which I think is so beautiful.
