At first glance it’s fair to say that Greta Constantine was weaving a tale of sailors and the mermaids that lured them in with their siren call, but of course the collection was about so much more than meets the eye.
For Spring/Summer 2014 Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong wanted to present “a vision of female grace undone.” And so they did by creating looks that balance smouldering sexuality with elegant sophistication. By countering flared skirts and bows with body skimming cut out dresses, we are presented with the two universal social ideologies of beauty. On one hand, we have the polished and chic pieces that represent the restrained yet elegantly reserved woman while on the other we have the sensual and highly desired woman who is surrounded by a cover of darkness and mystery.
The most important take away from this collection is how the pieces themselves move, as they are meant to empower women. Each woman carries herself in a different way and for these pieces to move in rhythm with your body you are able to adapt them as a second skin, choosing which type of woman you want to be.
