How to Achieve the Perfect Red Pout
I love a classic red lip! Frankly, I’m a fan of any version of red whether it be burgundy, orange, rust, you name it I am all for it! While I used to wear at least once a week, I started to get a little comfortable wearing my nudes, pinks and mauves, but lately I’ve fallen back in love with red!
With that being said, I know that wearing red can seem a little intimidating if you don’t wear it often however, in my opinion, red looks great on EVERYONE! You just need to wear red the right way, and trust me, there is a way to do it!
Once you begin wearing bold colours on your lips, the quicker you will question why you waited so long!
- Start with a scrub to help exfoliate all of the dead skin on your lips. Ultimately the smoother your lips, the better the application, so get in the habit of giving your lips a little scrub when your in the shower or when you are prepping your skin in the morning.
- Moisturize your lips before anything. The winter can be an especially difficult time for beauty due to the dryness in the air, and they particularly need to be moisturized when wearing lip products. Even if I wear a matte lipstick, I start with a moisturizing base and dab my lips with a tissue so the oils of the balm don’t make my lipstick doesn’t run.
- Warm red or cool red? Choosing the right red for you has a lot to do with the shade of your skin and features. This is when you need to experiment with colour and try different warm and cool tones to see which flatters your features the most.
- Please don’t forget a liner because then things just get messy. The key to a perfectly applied lipstick of any colour is a great liner and especially with red lipstick, you want to keep things as neat as possible. A liner helps to guide the lipstick and keep it in place and I typically apply the liner all over my lips which helps secure the lipstick as well.
- Of course, then you apply your lipstick. I simply apply my lipstick directly but you can always opt for a lip brush if you prefer. I then make sure that the lipstick is evenly applied (all corners + cupids bow).
- Keep it all intact with the help of a small brush and a little face powder. Do this by dipping your brush into loose powder, tap off the excess, and then lightly brush around the lip’s edges. This makes sure that the colour doesn’t bleed and keeps your colour in check!
- Finish off with a smack of the lips and maybe even dab your lips with your ring finger to make sure the colour is set and Voila!
