How to Create an Amazing Multi-functional Studio Home

Living alone is a dream for many. After sharing a home with family, then dorm mates and then perhaps fellow professionals, it’s understandable if you’re desperate for your own space. However, when you can afford to live on your own for the first time, it’s unlikely that you’ll manage to bag anywhere particularly large. In fact, a studio apartment is likely to be your first proper home. The excitement of living alone might not last long when you realize you have no idea how to furnish a studio. How do you make the most out of such a small space? Even if you’re lucky enough to have a lot of floor space, you still have to make one room a multi-functional space. It needs to act as a bedroom, living room, dining room and possibly kitchen too. That’s a lot to ask from one room. So how can you create distinct spaces without splitting your apartment into a series of poky areas with no room to really live in them?

Privacy Screens

If you decide you want to split the room into different spaces, privacy screens or curtains can be helpful. They aren’t permanent, so you can put them away when you want to open up the space a bit more. But many people find that they feel more comfortable if they can separate the areas where they eat, sleep and work. It can be difficult to get to sleep in the same place where you were getting some work done just an hour before. You can use a privacy screen to section off your desk or perhaps your bed. However, don’t go overboard as you could end up just having a  series of tiny spaces.

Multi-functional Spaces

Since you don’t have a lot of room to work with, creating spaces that serve multiple purposes will help you get the most out of your studio. You can buy furniture that you can use for different things, including sofas that transform into beds and beds you can turn into desks. People often choose to use a sofa bed or daybed, so they quickly change from a living room to a bedroom by just removing some cushions. Multi-functional items will help you to save lots of space, especially if you can use them for storage. Lots of furniture items will double up as storage, including coffee tables, footstools, sofas and beds.

Consider Your Bed

Your bed is going to take up a lot of room in the studio, so you need to consider it carefully. Ideally, it should go against a wall, so it takes up less space. If you buy a new bed, there are several options you can think about to make the most of it. You could choose a loft bed, so you can have a workspace or storage underneath it. Apart from a sofa bed or daybed, you could also get a fold-away Murphy bed to give you even more space during the day. It’s best if your bed can serve a function during the day, and not just at night.
