Maybe you’ve never sipped whiskey before or maybe you’re a seasoned vet. In case you’re new to the whiskey scene, let me start by telling you that there are three main types of whiskey: Bourbon, Scotch, Rye. Bourbon brands include Jim Beam, Wild Turkey and Makers Mark; Scotch brands include Johnnie Walker, Glenmorangie and Highland Park; Rye brands include Crown Royal, Knob Creek and Sazerac Rye. Whiskey makers are obsessive in creating their perfect blend, taste and colour. Hundreds of years stand behind each whiskey label and a legacy of perfection and compulsion…And every single whiskey maker will assure you that their mix is best.

With Father’s Day around the corner, people are starting to think about Dad oriented gifts or experiences- May I suggest a whiskey tasting courtesy of Johnnie Walker for Dad? Although both my mother-in-law and my own mother are the whiskey drinkers in their respective households, whiskey is stereotypically associated with men: powerful, strong, manly men  -Think Don Draper (Mad Men),  Jack Donoghey (30 Rock), Ron Swanson (Parks & Rec). According to Cracked.com, ‘whisky is a currency of respect among men. A bottle of it presented to a fellow says “I acknowledge you as a man and have no plans to stab you.’ And what better way to tell your Dad that you acknowledge his manliness and do not want to stab him than throwing him his own private scotch tasting?

Although coordinating a tasting sounds like a complicated affair, let me assure you that it is anything but. I threw a Johnnie Walker whiskey tasting this past week and not only was it a huge hit with the crowd, it was relaxing, easy and most of all, fun. I brought the people and Cameron, our JW ambassador brought the whisky, the glasses, the pairings, the jokes and good looks.
