It’s That TIME of Year DIY

Clock DIY 7
Nothing symbolizes the ringing in of the New Year quite like a clock, and I’ve got just the one.

I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect wall clock for my bedroom for what feels like ages. I wanted something simple, elegant and clean.

My bedroom is my sanctuary. I don’t allow work in there, nor do I want a gigantic clock reminding me what time it is, so a bulky wall clock just wouldn’t cut it.

That’s why I was so excited when I came across a super-simple DIY clock idea where I could use the leather scraps from my Leather Lunch bag DIY from earlier this year.

Here’s what you’ll need to create your leather clock:

– Cork board(s)
– Leather or vegan alternative of your choice
– Craft glue
– Scissors/utility knife
– Something round to draw your circle
– Clock kit and clock hands (both of which you can pick up at Lee Valley)

Step 1:
Draw a circle, which will be the outline for your clock on both the cork board(s) and leather and cut out.
Note: Depending on the thickness of your cork board you may want to glue two sheets together for sturdiness, but make sure it can still accommodate the depth of clock kit insert.

Step 2:
Glue the layers (including leather) together and let dry.

Step 3:
Pierce a hole through the layers to accommodate the clock insert.

Step 4:
Follow clock insert instructions, insert battery, wall mount and done!

See, told you it was simple. Will you give it a try?

I'm Lisa, a real born and bred Torontonian in every sense of the word. I'm a PR practitioner by day with a fabulous client list, at a very cool boutique firm in the core with a view of the city that can make anyone want to move here. I have a mild to moderate hat obsession, and you’ll usually find me searching the city for the next big chef, and rarely without a fashion or décor magazine in my purse. Before PR, I was a travel writer/editor/photographer, and spent most of my time travelling the world and bringing my stories back here. The rest of the time I spent indulging in the city's untapped culinary scene as Post City Magazine's main restaurant photographer. But, no matter where I am in the world, nothing beats coming home. That's why I've spent the last few years planting my roots here, moving from Toronto’s uber-chic west side to the heart of Greek Town in a modern Victorian semi (a.ka. my lifelong décor project), with my husband and super-stylish son. Yes, I'm one of those moms, the one who won't give up her sense of style post-baby bump; and why should I?! I aspire to have my cake and eat it too - I am Italian after all. And, now why my 2-year-old in tow, I can bring him along for the ride.
