Canadian designer for New York based label KAELEN recently presented its first-ever Resort collection at an open house at the brand’s new Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) {FASHION INCUBATOR} studio in New York.
Featuring softly tailored, graphic pieces for the ready-to-wear line, the collection offers the familiarity of classic prints, such as the hyper-digitalized Hawaiian shirt motif and graphic stripes, and unexpected fabrics, like the black and white pairings in lasercut neoprene.
Influenced by “Play It As It Lays” by Joan Didion, the season’s looks will give rise to a natural, laid-back style with a surprising twist. Drawing inspiration from Slim Aarons, a photographer notable for capturing the likes of socialites, celebrities and jetsetters, the Resort 2015 collection combines effortless California style with dynamic technologies to deliver a line that is relatable.
“It feels like the right time to expand the KAELEN brand with the momentum of the CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program,” says designer Kaelen Haworth. “The Resort collection serves to bridge the different seasons and deliver a more complete narrative of the brand’s signature clean, cool and modern style.”
KAELEN FW14 pieces will be available in the White Space at the Hudson’s Bay in November. Resort 2015 pieces range from $270 – $1,080 CAD.

Fashion for the Jetset
Fresh off the start of the prestigious CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program, designer Kaelen Haworth expands her work with softly tailored, graphic pieces for the ready-to-wear line, available November 2014. The softly tailored pieces offer the familiarity of classic prints, such as the hyper-digitalized Hawaiian shirt motif and graphic stripes, and unexpected fabrics, like the black and white pairings in lasercut neoprene.
KAELEN’s first resort wear line will connect the stories of each season and reflect the growth of the brand since starting the CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program. Haworth describes the experience as “incredible” and continues to take KAELEN to new levels, including celebrity-focused efforts in LA and beginning the designs for her 11th collection, Spring / Summer 2015.
