When planning your wedding, there is a lot to decide. Where will you get married? What style of a wedding will you have? Then there are the details of what you will be wearing and how you will have your hair. A lot to plan and a lot of decisions to make. It is such a fun process, though.

When you think of the ceremony itself, it is probably the most serious part of the day. There are some things that you can’t change when you are planning the ceremony. There are legal requirements with what you have to say and get signatures from witnesses, so, although you can be creative, it has the least flexibility. The reception is where you can get creative, so here are a few ideas to inspire you to have some fun with your wedding reception.

One of the signature things that will happen at the reception is having your first dance. This is an easy way to do something funny for your guests. It will make the wedding so much more memorable for them too. Could you start with a slow dance and then have the music changed to something upbeat half way through? The two of you could make up your own routine to do too. People won’t be expecting it and it will be lots of fun.

One other fun thing that you could do is to hire a wedding photo booth. Guests can capture the moment at the wedding and get photos to take home with them. You can take some silly photographs with your guests too. If you want and energetic reception with lots of laughter, then this is a good solution.

People love to get little gifts or trinkets to have with them. They could be funny things that you give out at the party. Something like masks or balloons with your faces on would be hilarious! You could give them things like flip flops to wear to dance in, or a little hangover cure kit to take home with them. These are all simple ideas but can make your reception fun and memorable.

You will probably have had a meal prior to the reception, so it might just be a time for people to snack. So one fun thing to do is to set up an interactive food area. Have it be a candy bar, or caramel apple bar, where people can serve themselves. Waffles or crepe bars are a good idea, as well as cookies and ice cream. Then people can just pick and choose, and it makes it all more fun. If there are going to be children at your reception, then it works well for them too. They might start to get tired but having something to keep them occupied will be a big help for their parents. Some games or a kids table is a good idea if there will be children present too.
