In Paris, lovers lock their love on the famous Pont des Arts Bridge. In Budapest, their commitment finds roots on “The Tree of Life”. In Seoul South Korea, couples make pilgrimage to share their affections at the N Seoul Tower. Now, Toronto has its own lock & love installation nestled in the heart of the historic Distillery District.

Cue in the “awwwww”.

Torontonians and tourists can now “Lock their Love” at the Distillery’s new Love Installation. The installation is constructed out of steel, steel mesh and reclaimed Distillery lumber, and is approximately 30 feet long and 8 feet high. Like the many installations around the world, this is a fun way to lock in your appreciation for your loved ones and celebrate love!

Instructions to participants are simple:

1) Bring your lock and your love to the Distillery District. (Locks are available for purchase from Biltmore Domicile, which is across from the installation on Tank House Lane.)

2) Customize lock with initials or unique message

3) Secure lock to installation

4) Kiss partner

5) Throw away the key!

6) Share your love with the Distillery District using #DistilleryLove

“Visitors fall in love at The Distillery all the time, sometimes for the first time, while others fall in love all over again,” said Mathew Rosenblatt, The Love Installation creator and one of the neighbourhood’s developers. “I want to help those couples celebrate and commemorate their love in a fun, approachable, and non-commercial way.”

Since the Installation was erected in early July 2014, hundreds of locks have already been fastened to the love wall. One such romantic is the Toronto Blue Jay’s own James Happ, believed to have been one of the Love Installations earliest participants.
