I had the opportunity to ask Lucian a few questions about his new home decor venture and what he finds different about fashion design versus home.

GOTO: What was your inspiration for this home decor collection you have released?

LUCIAN: For the launch for the Lucian Matis Home collection I decided to use some of the old techniques that I used in my fashion collections. Some of the techniques include basket weaving, embroidery and beading, as well as the use of natural materials such as leather and cow hides.

GOTO: What were the most important aspects you wanted to focus on when working on this project?

LUCIAN: We decided to launch the collection with soft furnishings such as decorative pillows, throws, candles, bedding, for our starter categories. However there is a 5 year plan. Watch out for some very exciting additions to launch!

GOTO: How does designing for clothing differ from designing for your home and how are they similar?

LUCIAN: Design is design…therefore it is very similar, or at least I treat it as such when I work on fashion collections. I love interior design so I work with the same passion for home as for fashion. Instead of designing for the body..I design now for rooms and the potential of how they can be enhanced and effect those people who live in them. Home for the body and now accents for your home.

GOTO: Which home decor designers inspire you?

LUCIAN: I find a lot of European home decor collections very inspiring. They have great diversity, quality and novelty in their work. I try not to concentrate too much on one person because I like my work to individual and unique and this also stops any copycatting which clouds my vision for uniqueness.

GOTO: If you had one room in your home to decorate, what would it be?

LUCIAN: My home tends to me more industrial and minimal, so maybe the one room would be a very sophisticated men’s den. I  can see it now!…
