When your role is Don Draper’s wife in the hit TV show Mad Men, you can pretty much die happy, but Québécoise actress, Jessica Paré has much more to offer. Covering FASHION Magazine‘s March issue and photographed by Gabor Jurina and Zeina Esmail, Paré looks just as smouldering off camera as she does as her character Megan Draper.
Known for her famous Loren-esque rendition of “Zou Bisou Bisou” in the season five premiere of Mad Men, the 33 year old French-Canadian spoke to FASHION Magazine about her role and wardrobe as Megan Draper, and her other exciting new projects in the below excerpts from their exclusive interview:
On the fashion influences on the set of Mad Men:
“The references are everywhere! Old Vogue photos, Sears Roebuck catalogues and campaigns are taped up in the makeup trailer and dressing room. They inform so much of the characters.”
On Megan Draper’s wardrobe transformation:
“I wore a lot of bold colours…defined looks that included a lot of fabrics with no pattern. Then, in season five, Megan becomes the boss’s wife and a copywriter, so you see the evolution of her style. She begins to take risks, and has confidence with clothes. She thinks, ‘I can pull anything off!”
On receiving some of the best advice from the legendary actress, Sophia Loren:
“They need to see your eyes’ – which meant ‘Stop moving, feel the moment and don’t let emotions hide behind your hands.”
Her thoughts on gender equality:
“Of course I’m a feminist…if you’re not for the equal treatment of men and women, then you’re a fascist.”
On her new role in the upcoming rom-com film, Standby:
“She’s a rude American…she says exactly what’s on her mind and really cuts to the chase. Let’s just say she’s a little vulgar and she doesn’t mince words…she’s a lot like me.”
The March issue will be available on newsstands February 17, 2014, so make sure you pick yours up!
