“I love attention”
Marc Jacobs
And that he does.
As we bid farewell to an insane and invigorating fashion month before Toronto fashion week begins next week, it was the end of all ends when Marc Jacobs announced that he was saying au revoir to his position as Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton. With hearts breaking and eyes tearing, it’s safe to say that a journey has ended. Jacobs resigned his position from the French luxury brand to work for his eponymous line, Marc by Marc Jacobs as it makes its way public with its own IPO.
It’s been 16 years of carousel rides, pajama parties and stunning collaborations of which enriched us with elegant, jaw-dropping designs, and taking his audience on a sartorial adventure. Who will replace the boundary-pusher? The rumour mill suggests that there are many contenders being considered such as Nicolas Ghesquiere, Balenciaga’s former creative director or the Kenzo dream team of Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. At this point, only time will tell before we can sink our teeth on a new collection for Fall 2014. The clock is ticking.
In any case, when journeys come to an end, it’s best to look forward to the future and look back on the remarkable and historic memories that will forever live in the LV archives.
Below are some of our favourite looks from over the years, all pieces we would wear again and again.
