MaRS and OCAD to Host Etsy marketplaces

made in canada
It’s the first-ever Etsy Made in Canada event and everyone is invited!

Bringing together local Etsy sellers and communities in celebration of the country’s “maker movement,” Saturday, September 27, 23 locations across Canada will host a one-day marketplace for anyone interested in getting hands on with some fabulous local talent.

For one day only and as a part of the first-ever Made in Canada event, 2 Toronto locations: MaRS Discovery District and and OCAD University, will showcase a variety of the local Etsy sellers peddling their one-of-a-kind, handmade and vintage goods.

Personally, I cant wait! Online shopping is great and all, but there’s still something special about getting acquainted with your purchase face to face for the first time, especially when you’re also discovering a new talent you may have never none about.

The Mars Discovery District Etsy Made in Canada flagship marketplace, to be located at 101 College Street, will feature 126 Etsy sellers from the Toronto area, including Aztec inspired beaded necklaces from Happy Camper, and upcycled wood furniture from Rong Designs, as well as a personal fave, customized pillowcases and designs from Said the King. The marketplace will  be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The OCAD University Etsy Made in Canada marketplace, open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will be held at OCAD’s The Great Hall at 100 McCaul St., second floor. Visitors  can shop local favourites like delicate stacking rings from Bread & Circus, Fitzy modern leather goods and coveted vintage treasures pieces from Rose Cliff Vintage.

These markets will span from Charlottetown to Nanaimo to Gatineau. But, if you can’t make it to one near you, don’t fret, you’ll be able to shop the Made in Canada marketplace online starting September 18 at Etsy.com/madeincanada.

I'm Lisa, a real born and bred Torontonian in every sense of the word. I'm a PR practitioner by day with a fabulous client list, at a very cool boutique firm in the core with a view of the city that can make anyone want to move here. I have a mild to moderate hat obsession, and you’ll usually find me searching the city for the next big chef, and rarely without a fashion or décor magazine in my purse. Before PR, I was a travel writer/editor/photographer, and spent most of my time travelling the world and bringing my stories back here. The rest of the time I spent indulging in the city's untapped culinary scene as Post City Magazine's main restaurant photographer. But, no matter where I am in the world, nothing beats coming home. That's why I've spent the last few years planting my roots here, moving from Toronto’s uber-chic west side to the heart of Greek Town in a modern Victorian semi (a.ka. my lifelong décor project), with my husband and super-stylish son. Yes, I'm one of those moms, the one who won't give up her sense of style post-baby bump; and why should I?! I aspire to have my cake and eat it too - I am Italian after all. And, now why my 2-year-old in tow, I can bring him along for the ride.
