Every year I get excited for the Toronto Interior Design Show, and even more excited for the show’s Opening Night.
It’s the perfect place to people watch and design gawk all at the same time. It’s a place to scout the year’s upcoming trends and discover some fabulous and innovative finds. You can always count on the displays to be bold and eye-catching. But, over and above some of the more “out there” exhibits you’ll be sure to spot a lot of great trends and practical applications for them.
Here are a few I spotted, maybe you might like them in your space.
Funky Vibes: The ’60s and ’70s are back and they have invaded your kitchen, bathroom and living room in a big way; think whimsical geo-metric patterns and bold colouring mixing.
Multifunctional Madness: Perfect for small spaces, typically in the form of ottomans with built in storage, this trend was creativity adapted and upgraded at IDS with pieces taking multifunction, adaptability and style to max. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t want to get the most out of your space, right?! A table that is just a table – boring. My favourite finds: the show-stopping CUBITTAT and Camouflage Heater, a product that brilliantly combines art and home heating solutions.
Pattern Playing: Not for the pattern-challenged of lover of beige, this trend takes soft palettes, bold primary colours, fun prints and whimsical patterns and rolls it all into one curated look that is pleasing to the eye.
