The basis of ela, a handbag and accessories collection designed by Ela Kowalewska, is the idea of humble luxury where refined and sophisticated silhouettes strive to showcase, rather than upstage, the wearer. From subtle asymmetry to luxe hardware and leather, every design element is infused with a high level of craftsmanship, materials, and a signature aesthetic.
Now entering its second season, ela has seen much success with its first A/W ’11 capsule collection, in particular its signature asymmetrical envelope clutch called the M.I.L.C.K (an acronym for a woman’s required cargo: money / identification / lipstick / cell / keys). Its asymmetrical flap and closure is a distinctive feature of all the silhouettes in the collection.
For S/S ’12, the designer turned up the heat with scorching shades of scarlet red, lime, purple, orange, yellow and cobalt blue in sumptuous leather finishes. Two new silhouettes will be introduced alongside the DD (double duty) tote and chibi (“little” in Japanese) lady bag from last season: lady bag, and hobo both in a beautiful stud-stamped leather. All handbags are crafted locally in Canada, and every piece is made from top-quality Italian materials. No detail is overlooked. Each bag is lined in vibrant purple, making the interior as unique as the exterior. Authenticity, practicality, and functionality are always at the forefront of the design process.
