Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling covers the Summer 2014 issue of Glow Magazine looking the best we’ve seen her yet. Did you notice the new short do on her? Love it! While the second season of OITNB hasn’t been released yet, we are really enjoying these snippets involving the cast.
We are used to seeing Schilling in her orange jumpsuit as Piper Chapman, but this issue of Glow showcases the star in a different light, and maybe even getting us more excited for the second season release. In the issue, Schilling speaks to Glow Magazine about the body issues of Hollywood, the characters on Orange is the New Black, her leading role success and more in the below excerpts from their exclusive interview:
On body weight:
“I’m an actor, not a model. I will never compromise myself or my health just to fit into something trendy. We have to realize that all women in all bodies are beautiful.”
On the portrayal of realistic characters in Orange is the New Black:
“Sometimes the entertainment industry denies reality, but the reality is, when you walk down the street there are so many different variations of what it means to be a human being and a woman, and I believe they are all OK … The series has made more space for realistic characters on TV that are based on all kinds of real people, as they’re all valuable and worth having their story told.”
On her Golden Globes nomination:
“Before [the nomination], I hadn’t had the opportunity to share my talents yet. Now I know I’ve finally been seen by so many people and I’m on the right track. I’m so grateful Jenji [Kohan, creator of OITNB] saw who I really was during my audition. She saw what I was capable of.”
On maintaining a work-life balance in Hollywood, and Meryl Streep, whom she worked with in her first major studio project, Dark Matter:
“You have to be aware of your time. I have solid relationships because I make them happen. That’s why I think Meryl Streep gets it right … She makes space for the important things and knows her own value.”
The Summer 2014 issue of Glow Magazine is available on newsstands May 22, 2014.
