In 2013 we saw a huge 90’s comeback in fashion from flannel shirts, dark plum lips and a whole lot of punk. Everyone was jumping on the bandwagon – eager to resurrect trends of which we wanted to partake in 20 years ago.
Nothing screams more 90’s than Calvin Klein – especially his racy advertisements in which he reinvents the idea of basic sportswear, and makes it fashionable. His looks were clean, realistic and focused primarily on fit of which became an iconic 90’s trend and put American fashion on the map.
Tim Banks, editor for style.com, said the following during their usual Throwback Thursdays as he revisits iconic collections and people of seasons past:
“Calvin Klein changed the way we looked at the most basic things.”
Truer words were never spoken.
Hiring top supermodels such as a coy Kate Moss and the dreamy, steamy-eyed Mark Walberg aka Marky Mark was just the cherry on top of a delicious fashion-house reinvention.
The advertisement is raw, authentic, sends the audience good vibrations and defined CK – a brand that encourages fit, simplicity and seduces consumers to consider his minimal aesthetic.
A shirtless Marky Mark also helps.
