Four Simple Steps for Sun Protection

With the summer and hot weather here, it’s imperative that you include sunscreen and spf in your daily beauty routine because you just can’t afford to not wear sunscreen – as the risks associated with not wearing sunscreen can produce long-term damage to your skin. When I was young, I have to admit that I hardly thought about wearing sunscreen and really caring for my skin, but as I got older, I knew that it was nothing to take lightly.

With that being said, a few sun spots and lessons learned later, I am serious about caring for my skin and that of course means following the CDA’s four simple steps to sun protection:

Limit sun exposure during peak sun hours, 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and especially around midday when the sun’s radiation is the strongest.

Seek shade as much as possible, especially when your shadow is shorter than you. That is a key sign that the sun is directly overhead and its rays are the strongest. Short shadow = seek shade!

Wear protective hats and clothing. Though this doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t apply sunscreen, so it’s important to remember to always apply sunscreen to the parts of your skin that are exposed, like your face, lips, neck and ears.

Always use a SPF 30 or higher broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply at least every two hours, and even earlier after swimming or sweating.

Another great tip is for the beauty lovers out there. Pickup a few skincare products that include SPF protection and even foundation that can help protect the skin just in case. Drunk Elephant has been a new brand that I am loving and I have put together a little “Daily Skin Protection Smoothie”, so I know that I’m always protected:

1 Pump of C-Firma to help firm + brighten while improving the signs of photoaging.

1 Pump of B-Hydra to quench and illuminate with a shot of hydration + vitamin B

Pea-sized amount of Umbra Sheer or Umbra Tinte to protect and preserve the skin while offering a natural tint and SPF 30 sunscreen

Now get our there and have some fun in the sun but stay protected!
