The Wedding Tasks You Need to Tackle First
You might have had dreams of your wedding since you were a little girl, but when the time comes after the proposal, you have so many ideas that you don’t know where to start. Looking at dresses and flowers is definitely the fun part, but before that comes the real planning. Organizing the beginning stages can be difficult to navigate, so once your family and friends know of your engagement, you need to start getting your thoughts together. Keep yourself from getting too overwhelmed by doing these tasks first.
Set a Date and Location
The first things you should think about are just when and where you want to get married. You can’t really do anything else until you’ve decided these important factors. You need to pick a year, and a time of year. Long engagements are much more common than they might once have been, so don’t feel that there’s any rush. There are a lot of things you can take into consideration, from the weather to the price, so if you have an outdoor wedding, spring or summer is best, however, if you want to save money, a fall or winter wedding could be a good choice.
Consider Numbers
After the date and location, your guest list might be the next most important thing to think about. You can’t book a venue until you’ve thought about how many people you want to invite. You’re going to need somewhere very different for 200 guests than you would need for 20. It can be one of the most difficult parts of your wedding planning. There can be etiquette to navigate and feelings to spare. However, try not to base your guest list off of who expects to be invited. It’s up to you who comes to the wedding and how large it is
Choose a Theme
Not all weddings have an overarching theme, but it’s a good idea to choose one in the early stages. If you’re finding the thought of making hundreds of tiny decisions daunting, a theme can help to guide you. With one idea to inform all your other choices, you can pick things that go along with your main theme. If you need some inspiration, there are plenty of places where you can find wedding theming ideas. It doesn’t have to be anything whacky and weird, but instead it could be a vintage wedding or have a theme of something simple like flowers.
Find a Venue
Do you get married at home, where you grew up or even go abroad? It’s a tough decision, so think carefully. When you’ve got an idea of when, where and how many people, you can start looking at venues. You should have a good choice of places, unless you’ve chosen to get married in a small town or somewhere remote. Before you make a decision, make sure you get quotes and talk to whoever is in charge of events at each potential venue
Once you’ve made some of the big decisions, it’s easier to pick up steam and keep going. Just remember to take breaks, so you don’t get too stressed.
