Tips for a Happier YOU
Happiness may seem simple enough, but the stresses of life naturally take a toll and it is common to feel down at times, question your journey and wonder where your life will take you. I’ve made a conscious effort to fuel my soul and create a happier me by making small but effective changes that have shown me just how to be happier.
Focus on Mental + Physical Health
My mental health is just as important as my physical health. Last year I really started to look at how to live a healthy lifestyle in a more realistic way and rather than focusing on a specific result, I looked to improve my outlook on my lifestyle altogether. I had been visiting the YMCA of Greater Toronto and immediately experienced a huge change in my attitude. The Y fosters an environment that promotes inclusivity and focuses on a community that stands by their Sweat For Good philosophy. The Y is all about creating a foundation for a healthy future, which motivates me to sweat for more than just getting fit, but to work towards a healthier lifestyle both mentally and physically.
Join a Supportive Community
For many people motivation can be a tricky thing, especially when it comes to fitness. After joining the Y I started to understand that having a supportive community can do so much for you and help keep you motivated, push you to work out more effectively and encourage you to stay committed to improving your own health as well as the health of your community.
Whether it is a class or a small group of friends that you have connected with through your health and fitness commitment, a community not only keeps you accountable, but it creates a positive environment that represents more than just a “workout buddy”. The YMCA of Greater Toronto’s Sweat For Good philosophy promotes inclusivity, which you immediately feel when visiting any YMCA. It’s also the community that makes the process less stressful and way more enjoyable and encouraging when you are collectively working towards bettering your community and the opportunities for those who need it!
Be Grateful
It can be hard to focus on the good when the natural stresses of your life come to a head, but it’s important to take the time to be grateful each day. Not only is it absolutely draining to let the weight of your world crush you, but it is the most rewarding feeling when you can take the time to be grateful for everything good in your life. Visiting my family at the YMCA of Greater Toronto has taught me so much about community and how grateful I need to be for everything I have. It’s incredibly motivating to visit the Y and sweat for not only the good of my heath but for the good of my community.
It’s amazing what a little self love can do when you appreciate all that you are and have in the moment.
