Tips for Nailing the Natural Makeup Look

I remember 10 years ago, my main objective of makeup was to really have fun with it. There was never too much, all about the vibrant colours, you name it. Now that I’m in my early 30’s, I’m appreciating the idea of “less is more” and I am more focused on how healthy my skin looks.

With that being said, I love the “no makeup-makeup look” and with it being summer, I believe that your makeup should make you glow and bring out your most beautiful features. That’s why I wanted to share a few tips on how to nail the natural glowy makeup look that will give you a polished and put together look whether you are going to work or out to hang with friends on the weekends!

Skincare is #1

I know this post is mainly about makeup, but in order to apply your makeup properly, you need to have a good base. This is where your skincare comes in. Great skincare is the actual key for a flawless and natural makeup look.

With a natural makeup look, the objective is to give your skin a healthy glow, and it’s your skincare that will guide you first. I’ve become really diligent with my skin over this past year, so when I keep my makeup simple, I like to look glowy and effortless without all the work. Do your homework with skincare and find the right products that can assist with your skin concerns, so you can work towards healthy and clear skin whether you are bare faced or not.

Keep it Simple

My favourite part about this makeup look is the fact that it doesn’t take a lot of work, so it’s not only important to use fewer products, but use the right ones. As I mentioned, I love a good glow, but I was initially using the wrong products that didn’t allow my skin to breath.

I’ve been using the Nude by Nature brand over the last few months, and I’m beating myself up that I didn’t start earlier. I have a number of favourites, but for my everyday, I love to focus on my skin, the glow and my brows and lately I’ve been loving their Translucent Finishing Powder, their Cashmere Pressed Blush and lastly, their Precision Brow Mascara.

When you have the right products for your skin, you can keep it simple with just a few steps, but still achieve the perfect natural look!

Stick to Neutral Shades

Shades are very important when looking to naturally enhance your look – this was big for me.

I always struggled to find the right shade and formula that gave me that effortless natural glow and instead I kept getting a bronze shade that was either too light or too aggressive and while I liked to set my makeup, I hated the weight that it added. Just a simple swap out of a few products and I have the right finishing powder that sets on my skin nicely, I went for an illuminating foundation rather than a matte and I now prefer a peach bronze which gives me a healthy glow rather than a berry shade which is a tad too deep for summer.

It’s all about trial an error after all. Step out of your comfort zone, but let your natural beauty shine through!
