In just a few short days, celebrities and film goers from around the world will meet in Toronto for the much anticipated Toronto International Film Festival. To tempt the most sophisticated palates, 2013 World-Class Canada Bartender of the Year Jenner Cormier has created an exclusive cocktail collection to celebrate the festival.
“The quality of the brands featured in this collection stand for themselves. The spirit-forward cocktails don’t try to mask the delicate nuances of flavour found in DON JULIO®, JOHNNIE WALKER® or RON ZACAPA® 23 Centenario Rum. I’ve also included some cocktails with KETEL ONE® Vodka and CÎROC® that are sure to please all palates,” Jenner Cormier explains. “I crafted these cocktails to be enjoyed during the Toronto film parties but some of them can also be recreated when entertaining at home.”
Luckily for Torontonians, these cocktails will be featured across the city at several private film cast and crew parties during the first two weeks of September! See below for the featured cocktails and their recipes (in case you want to throw your own personal TIFF themed party)!
THE COPPER KETEL ONE
Ingredients
1 1⁄4 oz KETEL ONE® Vodka
1⁄2 oz Simple Syrup (1 part sugar + 1 part water)
1⁄4 oz Elderflower Liqueur
3⁄4 oz Freshly-Squeezed Lemon Juice
2 Sprigs Fresh Mint (one for cocktail, one for garnish)
2 oz Prosecco
1⁄4 Of a Passion Fruit
Method
Combine first 5 ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Fill a copper base or rocks glass with ice. Shake the cocktail and fine strain into the glass. Top with Prosecco and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and 1⁄4 of a passion fruit.
THE KETEL ONE® SCENE-STEALER
Ingredients
1 1⁄4 oz KETEL ONE® Vodka
1 oz Fresh Blueberry Juice
1 oz Pomegranate Juice
1⁄2 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1⁄2 oz Agave Syrup (1 part agave + 1 part water)
1⁄4 oz Sherry
2 oz Ginger Beer
1 Lime Wedge
Method
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Strain into an old fashioned glass or rocks glass over ice. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge.
THE JOHNNIE WALKER® TRUE STORY
Ingredients
1oz JOHNNIE WALKER® Black Label
1⁄2 oz Passion Fruit Juice
1⁄2 oz Amaro Montenegro
3⁄4 oz Honey Syrup (1 part honey: 1 part water)
3⁄4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
1⁄2 sprig Fresh Mint
Freshly Cracked Pepper
Method
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice – shake hard. Fine strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with freshly cracked pepper.
Tequila DON JULIO® DALE & LEO’S PALOMA
Ingredients
3⁄4 oz Tequila DON JULIO® Blanco
1 oz Fresh Pink Grapefruit Juice
1⁄2oz Pomegranate Liqueur
1⁄2oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Simple Syrup (1 part sugar: 1 part water)
1⁄4oz Sherry
1⁄4oz Lime Wheel
1⁄4oz Seasonal Berries
Method
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain into a stemmed glass over ice. Garnish with fresh berries and a lime wheel.
RON ZACAPA® DIRECTOR’S CUT
Ingredients
1 oz RONZACAPA® 23 Centenario Rum
3⁄4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1⁄2 oz Fresh Pineapple Juice
1⁄2 oz Orgeat Syrup
1⁄4 oz Aperol
1⁄4 oz Dry Vermouth
1 dash Angostura Bitters
Method
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain into a coupe or Nick & Nora glass. Garnish with a pineapple triangle.
CÎROC® NORTHERN STAR
Ingredients
1oz CÎROC® Peach
1⁄2oz Domaine De Canton
1⁄2oz Honey Syrup (1 part honey + 1 part water)
3⁄4 oz Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
2oz Perrier
2oz White Tea (freshly-brewed and chilled)
1 slice White Peach (Garnish)
3-4 Seasonal Berries (Garnish)
Method
Fill shaker with ice. Combine all ingredients and shake. Stain into a Collins glass over ice. Top with 1⁄2 Perrier and 1⁄2 cold white tea. Garnish with a slice of white peach and seasonal berries.
