Toronto Welcomes the New #RexallBrunswick
I have had a long history of walking through The Brunswick House doors. Strutting up the stairs while greeted by friends, heading down the ramp to hit the dance floor, and approaching the bar to order a favourite cocktail was a familiar occurrence back in the day.
Now, walking into Toronto’s memorable Harbord Village location, I’m faced with all the health and wellness products that my heart desires, along with snacks, home essentials and more now that Rexall has opened its doors at the well-known Brunswick House.
I have to admit that it was an eerie feeling walking through the doors Thursday morning, but I was immediately thrilled to see that The Brunswick House was still really there – it just wasn’t playing my favourite jam and I wasn’t ordering a cocktail. During the development of the new Rexall, the drugstore took the opportunity to work closely with the City of Toronto’s Heritage Preservation Service and fully restored the building’s signature look and kept its interior elements.
From the chandeliers, gorgeous tin ceilings and iconic Brunswick House signage to the famous keg barrel bar which has been restored and is now used as the store’s main checkout area, it has been turned into a beautiful new Rexall flagship, without losing the buildings charm and iconic layout and design.
Helping celebrate the new opening, the Rexall Brunswick House Music Artifacts Exhibition was unveiled and welcomed memorabilia from musicians that graced the Brunswick House over the years like Jeff Healey, Oscar Peterson, Downchild Blues Band, Peter Appleyard and others. The exhibit, which is a must see, will remain open to the general public before moving on to a permanent home at Calgary’s Studio Bell, home of the illustrious National Music Centre, where it will go on display in 2018.
What was once a hotel, local bar and then a famous live music venue, the newly restored Brunswick House is now home to the flagship Rexall where you can get just about anything from a new mascara to to cleaning products for your home. I am known for walking in to just grab a chapstick or a bottle of water and leave with everything but the kitchen sink, and now all the shopping is done inside a beautifully designed Rexall that to me, will still be referenced as “The Brunny”.
