It’s a well-known fact that you can often become blind to the delights of your own city. What with the day to day grind and the hassles of work, it can become easy to forget that Toronto is a dazzling metropolis with an endlessly surprising wealth of attractions for even the most jaded eye! So if you’re suffering from the winter blues, here’s a Touring Toronto for Beginners guide reminder of a few of the delights of our magnificent city!
CN Tower
When was the last time that you went up the famous CN Tower? Most of us will be embarrassed to say that it hasn’t been since childhood. This is a shame as it’s a great way to see how our skyline has changed over the years. And for the brave of heart, the thrilling Edge Walk is well worth a try if you fancy being suspended hands-free from a metal rail 116 storeys above the ground!
Art Gallery of Ontario
This iconic building has a constantly updated range of exhibitions on display. Current highlights include a great collection of works by ground breaking visual artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The AGO also hosts a wide array of adult courses, workshops and even yoga classes, just check the website for further details.
Casino Rama
Of course, there are some fairly fantastic delights out and around Toronto too. If you’re heading north, then a quick visit to Casino Rama is highly recommended. Offering all of the casino kitsch you’d expect, it also has some pretty impressive live concerts too including shows by artists as diverse as Weezer and Sheryl Crow. However, if you’re staying defiantly city-centre bound, then fear not as you can still experience that wild casino thrill with the online gaming delights of cad.SpinPalace.com!
Casa Loma
One of Toronto’s more magical places has to be the mysterious Casa Loma. This somewhat eccentric castle conjures up all of the splendour and luxury of some of the finest European palaces right on our doorstep. It’s also more than a simple photo opportunity. The castle also hosts regular winter wonderland and medieval theatre workshops too!
The Distillery District
And finally one of our favourite places to go is the famous Distillery District. Full to the brim with chic boutiques, hyper-healthy restaurants and atmospheric bars, it’s a great place to spend a few hours wandering around the picturesque red brick Victorian buildings.
In particular, the Leslieville Flea is well worth checking out for a great range of unique and wonderful upcycled products and vintage finds!
