Wine of the Week: Cucumber Dream from Barfish
As we previously announced here, Toronto has recently welcomed a new cocktail destination, BarFish, to the King and Bathurst area. Last week I had the opportunity to try a Cucumber Dream, the delicious gin based cocktail at Barfish, part of Japanese restaurant Blowfish. With a Vegas Hakkasan feel, the long, narrow bar décor was a beautiful and tasteful with a purple hue that was perfect for the subtly sexy atmosphere.
Head bartender, Nishan Nepulongoda, was nothing short of a magician behind the bar, slicing, muddling and serving his creative concoction, the Cucumber Dream. This drink is light, fresh, not too sweet and is topped with a slice of cucumber (to help me feel slightly healthy?) and is indeed its namesake- a dream!
If you can’t make it down to Barfish any time soon, here is recipe for you to try at home:
The Cucumber Dream:
1.5 Bombay Sapphire gin
0.5 Calamansi juice
0.5 Aperol
2.0 Lime juice
1.0 Falernum syrup
1 dash lemon bitter
Muddle three slices of cucumber, double strain and garnish with cilantro
