‘Tis the season of entertaining and it is difficult to know what wine to serve with what food and when. For example, people assume that you can’t serve red wine with fish but that is an urban myth. If you want to drink red with your fish, drink red! Just make sure it’s the right red.
Everyone knows that a Shiraz is a heavier wine and it is very ‘hit or miss’ with a lot of wine drinkers. Luckily, with their 2010 Shiraz Cabernet, Jackson Triggs has a hit on their hands. Although I am hesitant to sip a Shiraz sans food, this particular blend was just light enough to enjoy with a Gouda and a sharp Cheddar. Released last year, this reserved varietal shows off the strength, versatility and beauty of the Niagara region, proving why Ontario makes some of the world’s best wine.
Mixed with a lighter Cabernet grape, this wine is deliciously dry, full bodied & smooth. This is the wine to serve your boyfriend’s parents or your married friends when they come around for a steak (or any other grilled red meat) dinner. (Using phrases like ‘Reserved red,’ ‘2012 release,’ ‘blended varietal’ and ‘2010 vintage’ will impress your guests so feel free to drop them in when they compliment you on your wine choice). With hints of pepper, black fruit and dark cherry, this wine sits on your palate after your first sip letting your enjoy the rich and robust flavours.
This wine is available at the LCBO for $13.95.
