I know I have written about Southbrook Vineyards before but I feel like I am seeing this brand everywhere recently. When it comes to giving your brand a personality, Southbrook has this down pat. As I mentioned before, Southbrooks Connect range is VQA, 100% organic grapes and the red wine is certified bio-dynamic. Even their bottles are composed of locally sourced recycled glass from Ontario’s Bag-It-Back program. The slogan for Southbrook Connect is ‘Goes with Life,’ seamlessly integrated into the ‘pro-green’ attitude that motivates our ‘Whole Foods’ generation.
I’ve seen this socially responsible brand at yoga events, runs and perhaps my favourite, charity events. They are constantly donating their wine to causes that better our world. This marketing model is similar to Gallo’s Barefoot Wines who put their advertising dollars (and wine) into fundraisers around the world- primarily LGBTQ. Coming from a wine based PR background, I would say that this ‘non-advertising’ way of marketing seems to be working.
The last time I saw Southbrook was at the premiere of Eat to Feed Toronto, a socially responsible dinner series that showcases Good Food for Good‘s unique and flavourful sauces, all sourced from organic Ontario farmers. Profits from this dinner series are donated to Food Share, which provides education and hunger relief to Torontonians… and Southbrook was there pouring wine. Bless.
Another great thing about the Southbrook Connect range is its versatility. These are delicious and mellow wines that if personified, would probably be your really chilled pal who is always down for whatever you’re down for (Not in THAT way- gross) and a truly solid friend. These wines aren’t snobby- They can be paired with pretty much any food and are just as delicious as when you drink them on their own. I dare admit that even I have committed the ‘cardinal sin’ and enjoyed a refreshing summertime Southbrook Connect white with an ice cube! GASP!
My point is that Southbrook Connect is not just good wine, it is good both socially and environmentally too. It’s not the most spectacular wine you have ever tasted (the red is a bit weak) but it doesn’t pretend that exceptional wine is the point. You know it is always there as a dependable, relaxed, enjoyable wine. Your family and friends will thank you for bringing it to the BBQ and you can enjoy your wine knowing that with your purchase, you did something good for the world…Or something like that…. Regardless, you will be good drinking wine and that’s what counts.
Southbrook Connect is available at the LCBO for $15.95.
