Fall has officially arrived and with it comes the familiar smells and flavors such as apple, spices- even the crisp autumn air has it’s own affections. We migrate from the patios of summer to cozy lounges with dark leather armchairs and blankets. When choosing a wine in the autumn, most of us drift toward a warm red before honing in on a safe Cabernet Sauvignon. While a Cabernet Sauvignon is dependable, beautiful and easy to drink, there are many other options within the vast category of red wine.
The Toronto weather has been pretty drab and rainy as of late, leaving you little to do besides curling up on the couch with a good book, a favorite movie and a lush glass of red. Lucky you- I have just the wine for that!
I was recently introduced to Whitehaven wines through one of my company’s PR clients, E&J Gallo. And while I like to remain diplomatic in my wine choices (my favorite Pinot Grigio is the Italian Gabbiano), I must admit that affiliation or not, this particular Pinot Noir repeatedly finds it way into my wine cabinet and shortly after, into my glass. Rest assured that my ‘wines of the week’ will be based on personal preferences and experiences, and have not been endorsed by my client.
Right onto this delicious discovery! This fruity, medium bodied red wine comes from the Malborough region in New Zealand. The smell of raspberry and cherry, dark leather and autumn spices will toy with your senses. It goes down smooth, the taste of spice lingering succinctly on your tongue, reminding you why you are a lover of red wine. This wine is everything that fall is meant to be: familiar, fresh and abating- Not to mention, delectably delicious!
Whitehaven Pinot Noir is available at the LCBO for $23.45. While it’s a bit high on the wine side, it is definitely worth a try!
