Moments before the final show of Day 2 of World MasterCard Fashion Week the crowd was absolutely buzzing with excitement. This is where the cool kids were and they were there to honour a good friend, and fellow cool kid, Sid Neigum.
The first looks were a brown loose-fitted dress and a structured suit that showcased the designer’s eye for architecture and interesting choice in material. Following the suit came his spectacular dresses, skirts, and robe-like coats. A brilliant moment stands out in my mind: the models were absolute visions in white, their almost white hair and fair skin completed the ethereal looks and immediately the crowd was in the presence of something great. Make note, although it was as if two angels were walking amongst us, the asymmetrical cut of one of the dresses and sharp structure that both carried reminded us that the Sid Neigum girl is one who is the ingénue at every party, the one whose natural looks and je ne sais quoi seem to captivate and draw people in with such ease.
The colour palette of the beginning of the show was a mixture of neutrals: browns, greys, whites, and blacks, and then turned into delicious deep purples and rich maroons. Each item, as unique as the one that came before it, had something new to offer. The designer chose to use cut outs in all the right places at the front of some of the garments which pays homage to the downtown chic feel of the entire collection.
Neigum’s pieces are extremely wearable and quite practical, yet they still have the ability to stand out in a crowd and depict whoever is wearing them as utterly chic.
What was most fascinating about the show was the footwear. The shoes were featured in an assortment of blacks and whites. Although they seemed extremely high under the material that enveloped the actual shoe, the models had no issues walking and I am happy to report that we did not have any casualties via crazy footwear this show.
The models’ hair and make up was very natural: loose waves and light blush completed the look of the ingénues, something every girl could easily recreate.
