To create a mood for your show before sending a model down the runway requires a certain skill. Mélissa Nepton was able to do just that, as the second last show of Day 2 of Toronto Fashion Week; the lights dimmed, Asian-inspired chimes began to play and the audience knew in that instance exactly what her inspiration was. Once the models walked out, it was clear to see: Geisha-esq girls marched out with tough-as-nails hairdos and powerful bold makeup that you could see from even the furthest row from the stage. Bright fuchsias and peaches lit up the area surrounding the models’ eyes and the tops of their cheekbones.
I was quite surprised to see chunky white knits walk out as the first few looks, and yet, it all just worked so well and those items are sure to become a favourite amongst the street style crowd this spring.
The key looks included the silk sportswear outfits that appeared to be extremely comfortable yet playful at the same time, as well as the short printed dresses and kimono cardigans. Items could be worn together or on their own this spring, but either way you will be able to achieve the beauty and strength Mélissa Nepton was trying to convey this season.
