Audience members filled the crisp, white room as they waited patiently for the fellow Torontonian, Cara Cheung and her S/S 2014 collection. As the lights dimmed and the first model stepped out, jaws dropped. A milky white number, and killer black booties made their debut and I knew at that moment that nothing would be the same. After this first look, it’s safe to say that the Cara Cheung woman is one that isn’t afraid to make a statement, be edgy and urban and still comfortable in her own skin.
Body-con numbers were in abundance in black, white and lime green with elements such as sheer and leather details, maxis with slits up-to-there, and lots of hardware juxtaposed the delicate lace to create an edgy look. My favourite element was the architectural lines because they created an intricate aesthetic that makes the outfit more appealing and striking.
And remember crop tops? They reigned in all their glory indicating that the end of them is far from near.
Topping off the urban look in hair and makeup was sleek, pin straight hair parted in the middle with winged eyeliner, and pink pouts.
It’s interesting to see such emphasis on architectural lines and sharp details for spring when usually softer fabrics and colours dominate the runway for this season. Evidently, these innovative designs are a refreshing take for Spring and ideal for the urban girl looking to stay chic and remain cutting edge. Clearly Cara Cheung knows what she’s doing and we can’t wait to see what new looks she’ll bring us in the future.
Favourite looks of the night? The lime and black leather jacket is calling my name and of course that maxi skirt with a high slit. Essentially I’ll be saving up my nickels and dimes for that jacket.
